Road Signs

Road signs are very important not only for helping drivers navigate the roads, but also assuring that they are safe. A lot of car accidents happen just because they are not following directions posted on signs. Believe it or not, road signs exist not only for the sake of the law, but also to make sure that the road is functioning in an orderly fashion and people are staying safe.

The same thing goes for signage in parking lots. On facilities such as restaurants, malls, offices, etc., they usually place a parking sign to guide the drivers where they can find a spot to park their car.

Signage for Your Parking Lot

If you own an establishment or facility, it is a must that you provide signage for parking lots, not only directing them where the proper parking is, but also placing the No Parking Sign on places where cars shouldn’t be parked, or placing hazard signs on dangerous places that you need to block in order to prevent drivers from passing through it.
Parking Sign Snellville, GA
To be able to determine how much signage you are going to use, you should first decide where you are going to place it because having the proper strategy for where to install the signage can decrease the amount you are going to spend.

Parking Lot Safety – Signs Help Prevent Potential Hazards

There are a lot of cases where signage has saved lives. Even in parking lots, there can be hazards that you need to look out for. A good example of this is the under-construction sign. It can be very dangerous if you enter a zone where the place is still being constructed; accidentally driving in that area may be a grave mistake.

You should always follow stop signs and not under any circumstances, skip right past it because it’s the most convenient for you. A stop sign is placed there for a reason, and you don’t want to discover a live example of why it was there in the first place.

That’s why drivers are highly encouraged to be very observant when it comes to reading road and parking signs. No matter how small the print is, be sure to read signage properly, because it can make a huge difference between life and death.

Parking Lot Pressure Washing

Maintaining your parking lot clean and healthy can provide a lot of benefits. If your parking lot is clean, it has a positive effect on customers as well as your business. If you own a parking lot, you need to ensure that you know when it’s time to do a cleanup job.

Why You Should Pressure Wash Your Parking Lot

One of the most effective ways to clean a parking lot is to use a pressure washer. The machine shoots out a narrow, high pressure, jet of water. Different temperatures are used; when hot water is used, it’s referred to as power washing.

There are a lot of reasons why you must wash your parking lot from time to time. It can help you find paint markings that were initially there. Consider what would happen if the directional arrows in your parking lot got so piled up with dirt that people didn’t see them and therefore didn’t know where to go. Not all parking lots have directional arrows; this is hypothetical; it could be oil spills and dirt wearing away parking spaces.

Cleaning your parking lot can also help people keep their cars clean. If there’s an oil spill in the middle of the parking lot and someone accidently drives over it, it can make their car really dirty, which is rather frustrating especially if your car was recently washed.

Washing your parking lot makes your facility more inviting to customers. A dirty establishment will drive customers away because it reflects that you don’t take pride in your business. Basically, if you can’t take care of something as simple as a parking lot, how can people expect you to run a good business?
Parking Lot Sandy Springs, GA
This is a pretty well maintained parking lot. As you can see however, hesitation to cleaning your parking lot when it needs it results in potholes, cracks, and discoloration. Other than that, this parking lot is in great shape.
To keep a parking lot up and running, it requires regular maintenance. Not only will other people and the business suffer from a dirty parking lot, but also the parking lot itself. When dirt, oil, salt, harsh chemicals, etc. are not cleaned up and left in the parking lot, it can further induce wear and tear on you parking lot, creating potholes. This leads to defacement of markings and deterring customers from visiting your facility as mentioned above.

Roswell, GA Wheel Stop Installation

What Is A Wheel Stop?

Consistently parking within the lines of the parking space requires the driver to have a lot of experience. Wheel stops are a very useful and simple tool designed to make parking faster, easier, and safer. Wheel stops are used to prevent cars from driving past the parking spot, and hitting another vehicle, structure, or person. An inexperienced driver may run into curbs, buildings or other cars. For large vehicles, it is even more important to predict all potential risks and avoid danger.

Wheel Stop Dimensions

Wheel stops are required to be at least 6 inches in height but it is recommended that their height be limited to 6.5 inches to reduce tripping incidents. They are usually about 6 feet in length and should be located approximately 3 feet from the front of the parking space. In certain situations, curbs can be used in place of wheel stops.

Types Of Wheel Stops

  • Concrete- Wheel stops made of concrete can be advantageous due to their heavy weight, but they should only be used on flat surfaces as they won’t flex to accommodate uneven surfaces. They can cause a lot of damage to vehicles when hit, and they are expensive to ship and difficult to install.

  • Recycled Plastic- These come in a variety of sizes and colors. They are cost effective, lightweight, sturdy, solid blocks that won’t chip like concrete and will maintain their color. Plastic wheel stops are resistant to the negative effects of salt, oil, gas, sunlight, and other harsh chemicals. They also are less likely to cause damage to the front bumper of a vehicle and can be driven over without breaking. They should be used on smooth surfaces.

  • Recycled Rubber- Rubber wheel stops are more expensive than concrete, but cheaper than plastic. They are flexible enough to accommodate uneven surfaces without compromising structural support, and are easy to install. These are very durable and long lasting given they won’t chip, crack, or fade.

What is a Bollard?

Bollards are those posts you often see positioned in front of facilities, in parking lots, and on roads. They serve as a protective perimeter, and can also be used as a visual guide. Bollards are available in an array of shapes and styles to visually stand out in their environment. There are various customizations available for bollards, as they are very useful in multiple different circumstances such as stopping vehicle incursion and guiding traffic in the right direction.
Bollards Peachtree City, GA

Variations of Bollards

There are 4 main types of bollards:
  • Embedded Bollards- As the name suggests, they are bollards embedded deep into the ground.

  • Surface Mounted Bollards- These use an anchor system such as bolts in a post-tensioned concrete structure to mount the bollard to the surface. These are weaker than other types but are more cost effective if you’re just going for using them as guides.

  • Rebounding Bollards- These bend upon impact, quickly dispersing the impact energy and returning to its original position, seriously reducing damage to the vehicle and the bollard itself.

  • Retractable/Removable Bollards- Some of these are manually removed and have a pin locked in place with a padlock to prevent unauthorized access. These are used to restrict vehicle access part of the time, but reopen access when need be. The most kind is automatic retractable bollards which are usually hydraulic powered and can be lowered on command by a button, remote controls, toll booth pay systems, etc.

  • Some bollards are reflective and/or come with lights. There are so many different customizations as mentioned above.
Bollard Installation Peachtree City, GA
Different materials are used to make bollards including steel, concrete, and plastic. The strongest is concrete reinforced steel. Concrete and steel make up for each other's weaknesses providing maximum strength. Anyone who challenges a concrete reinforced steel bollard is just asking for a damaged car.

Parking Lot Pressure Washing

When To Pressure Wash Your Parking Garage

Depending on the weather, climate, and place you live, how often you will need to clean your parking lot will vary. Other factors such as how frequently people litter in the parking lot also have an effect. Whenever you see that your parking lot is getting dirty, do not hesitate to have it pressure washed. Pressure washers are used for both outdoor and indoor parking lots and garages. While outdoor parking lots need to be cleaned from dust, salt, and dirt, which ruin concrete, indoor parking facilities can still be affected by liquids and contaminants that ruin concrete and asphalt. Compared to outdoor parking areas, the situation for underground parking lots can make them even more susceptible to damage from chemicals as they feature  limited access to sunlight and are less likely to be evaporated.

Why Keeping Your Parking Lot Clean Is Good For Business

If your parking lot is constantly dirty,  your business may lose the clients. Gum, dirt, salt, and other debris can damage your parking lot. This can indicate to clients that you don’t have pride in your business, and therefore people shouldn’t do business with you because yours is unsuccessful. Imagine someone has accidentally dropped their keys in the parking lot and he is frustrated over having to pick them up as they have fell into a puddle of an unidentified liquid and he doesn't want to get his key all dirty and sticky. This person is probably then looking around feeling that the parking lot is far from clean.
In such a simple way you can lose your loyal clients which will move on to another shopping center, restaurant, etc. sometimes simply because of the dirty parking lot. No doubt that keeping up on cleaning is not an easy task but when it comes to other people’s health and safety, it is important to take all necessary measures.

East Point, GA Parking Lot Striping

East Point, GA Parking Lot Striping
Parking Lot Striping East Point, GA
East Point is a suburb positioned southwest of Atlanta in Fulton County, Georgia. The city name originated from being at the opposite side of the former Atlanta & West Point Railroad from West Point.

East Point has a city council-city manager type of government, with an expert city manager employed by the council. The manager is accepted by the eight-member city council, which is regulated by the mayor who has veto power. The city is divided into four zones (A, B, C, and D), each nominating two city council members.

In the late 20th century, East Point underwent a deficit of jobs due to industrial and railroad restructuring. In the first quarter of the 21st century, its economy has expanded, and new residencies and businesses have been established throughout the city. The relatively new Camp Creek Marketplace, for example, has 718,590 square feet of retail space, with new businesses moving in frequently. Several Fortune 500 companies are located here. The city’s newest multiplex opened in December 2007.

Choosing Traffic Bollards to Protect Facilities

There’s been many times before where vehicles have entered where they are not supposed to, whether by accident or on purpose. Parking lot barriers are set up using bollards and allow people to walk through, but prevent cars from traveling through. A good example of bollard use is in parking garages. In the case of parking garages, they are especially useful for guiding traffic in the right direction. A lot of different types of bollards are available, so the type you should get depends on your needs for your parking lot or facility.
Parking Garage East Point, GA
East Point, GA Parking Garage
You can even get automatic retractable or automatic telescoping bollards. What’s neat about these is that they lower on command. These are often remote controlled and are made of steel.

Concrete bollards are cheaper though, and most facilities don’t require a guarded gateway and just need their building to be protected from ram raids. In this case it would be better to get non-automatic bollards. The best kind to get if you’re going for resistance would be steel bollards reinforced with concrete on the outside. Ram raiders and car rammers will learn their lesson very fast if you install these in your parking lot. Steel reinforced with concrete is far better than either of the two alone. Concrete and steel are better at handling different types of stresses, so they compensate for each other's weaknesses.

Bollard East Point, GA
Bollards are generally pretty cheap and they have the capacity to serve all kinds of security situations. Some even have lights on them. Bollards can be easily modified according to the scenario so anyone can make good use of them.

Fire Lane Striping in Your Parking Lot

Many people ignore the importance of fire lane striping in their parking lot. Fire lanes must be marked in parking lots, especially in parking lots of congested areas such as industries, hospitals, schools and other places of public importance. It is illegal to park in the fire lane as they are there for the parking of rescue vehicles in case of an emergency. Fire lanes are marked by painting the curb red with white text reading: “NO PARKING – FIRE LANE”. They are marked in such places where there is higher potential for a fire. Fire lanes are used by all kinds of emergency vehicles. Take a look around your area and identify where you think needs a parking lot striping job. If you own a parking lot in front of a building, it is essential that you include fire lanes in your parking lot.

What is a Wheel Stop?

Wheel stops, also known as parking blocks, are used to define how far a car should pull up in a parking spot. They serve multiple purposes such as stopping vehicles from hitting the curb or from pulling past the parking space and driving into its opposite, potentially hitting another car.

Wheel Stop Requirements:

Wheel stops should be constructed of asphalt, timber, concrete, continuous concrete curbing, or other durable material. They should be at least six inches tall and located approximately three feet from the front of the parking space. Wheel stops need to be securely installed and maintained in order to prevent damage to nearby vehicles, machinery, or property. Functional equivalents such as raised sidewalks or surrounding curbs may be used in place of wheel stops wherever possible.
Concrete Wheel Stops Douglasville, GA

Common Types of Wheel Stops:

  • Concrete: These are most popular and are more susceptible to cracking than other types. They’re a harder surface as well as being cheaper, but they may need to be replaced more frequently than other types of wheel stops.

  • Plastic: These can be installed by a single person as they are very light compared to concrete. Parking blocks made from plastic can be recycled easily. They are also chemical and weather resistant and won’t chip, crack, or deteriorate from road salts or weather, so little to no maintenance is required.

  • Rubber: These are usually made from recycled materials thus they are often cheap. They are reflective as well, increasing visibility at night.

What Is A Bollard?

Bollards are short, thick posts used to prevent traffic from entering a certain area. In order to maintain safety for your facility as well as other vehicles, you should install bollards to stop traffic from entering areas where it is not supposed to.

How Do Bollards Protect My Property?

Bollards protect your property by preventing cars and other large vehicles from entering your facility. You have a lot of control over who enters your parking lot and some bollards are more durable than others and can even be removed when necessary. If you have gas lines or electric boxes outside your facility, bollards are often used to protect these. Cars may sometimes enter an area where they’re not supposed to, whether on accident, or on purpose. Bollards can also be used to guide traffic in the right direction. Bollards serve as boundaries for where cars can go.

What is a Ram Raid?

Ram raiding is a method of burglary where a large vehicle charges into a building, usually through the doors or windows of a closed shop to allow the burglars to loot it. One of the biggest ways to prevent ram raiding and car ramming attacks is to install bollards by your facility. This is very effective because it deters ram raiders from attacking your facility because they know the raid probably won’t be successful. Even if they do carry on with the ram raid, their car will probably get all dinged up and may not even make it to the building before breaking down.
